  30.        2.2  _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__M_e_t_h_o_d

  32.        All of the subsystems for OutBox can be installed using
  33.        IRIX.  You do not need to use the miniroot. Refer to the
  34.        _I_R_I_S _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e for complete installation
  35.        instructions.

  40.        This software requires IRIX 6.3 or IRIX 6.4.  The following

  79.        OutBox can run with any HTTP/1.0 compliant web server that
  80.        supports CGI-BIN, server parsed HTML and User Directory
  81.        mappings.

  83.        Using a web server other than the default is not a supported
  84.        configuration.  However, you will be able to configure your
  85.        web server to run OutBox.  To do this, see the information
  86.        below:

  88.        Consult the server documentation to configure it such that
  89.        it has a document root of /var/www/htdocs, a cgi-bin
  90.        directory of /var/www/cgi-bin and a user directory of
  91.        "public_html".  Turn on server-parsed HTML for files with
  92.        the suffix .shtml.

  97.        2.5  _C_h_a_n_g_e_s__i_n__t_h_i_s__r_e_l_e_a_s_e

  100.        Several new features were added to this release to improve
  101.        the OutBox web publishing and folder management process.
  102.        These changes are described in the Help pages available from
  103.        the new OutBox toolbars on the OutBox system and user pages.

  108.        2.5.1  _A_d_d_i_n_g__a__n_e_w__u_s_e_r
  109.  
  110.        In previous releases, the script /var/www/server/addUser.sh
  111.        was used to create the OutBox for a new user. This script
  112.        has been replaced by the script
  113.        /var/X11/xdm/firsttime/outbox.
  114.  
  115.        This script is run automatically the first time a new user
  116.        logs in to the desktop. If you wish to configure a user's
  117.        OutBox without requiring them to log in to the desktop, then
  118.        type these commands:

  120.        "su - user", then "/var/X11/xdm/firsttime/outbox"

  142.        Previous releases of OutBox required the web server to be
  143.        configured to parse all files with the suffix ".html" for
  144.        Server Side Include directives.  This slows server
  145.        performance needlessly.
  146.  
  147.        This release requires a server configured to parse only
  148.        files specifically marked as using Server Side Includes by
  149.        using the suffix ".shtml".  When accessing a directory, the
  150.        server is configured to look first for the file index.shtml,
  151.        then for index.html.

  154.        2.5.3  _U_p_g_r_a_d_e_d__S_y_s_t_e_m__a_n_d__U_s_e_r__w_e_b__p_a_g_e_s
  155.  
  156.        The new OutBox features require changes in the 6.2 OutBox
  157.        system and user web pages. The installation procedure
  158.        attempts to perform these changes automatically. If you have
  159.        changed your pages from the 6.2 defaults, this process may
  160.        fail. You will need to manually merge your existing files
  161.        with the new OutBox files. These files are:
  162.  
  163.           +o System web page: /var/www/htdocs/index.html, and
  164.             index.html.N
  165.  
  166.           +o User web page: ~/public_html/index.html and
  167.             index.html.N
  168.  
  169.        When you merge the files, be careful not to delete the
  170.        comment lines marked "DO NOT REMOVE".

  173.        2.5.4  _W_e_b__C_a_m_e_r_a__P_a_g_e
  174.  
  175.        The System page toolbar contains a button labeled "Camera".
  176.        Clicking on this button will display the OutBox Camera page.
  177.        This page contains a snapshot taken from the system video
  178.        camera, if one is installed.
  179.  
  180.        The camera snapshot feature is disabled by default to
  181.        prevent broadcast of the video camera image without a user's
  182.        knowledge. To enable the snapshot feature, log in as root,
  183.        and edit the file /var/www/cgi-bin/sgi-camera/snap. Change
  184.        the setting of 'camera' to 'camera="ENABLED"'.

  186.        _N_o_t_e: The snapshot is published to the web, and will be
  187.        visible to all visitors to your OutBox camera page.

  209.        This section describes known problems or bugs in this
  210.        release of OutBox

  213.        2.6.1  _U_s_i_n_g__a_n__H_T_T_P__P_r_o_x_y__s_e_r_v_e_r

  215.        The OutBox pages will not display the page owner's toolbar
  216.        options such as Edit or Publish if your browser is
  217.        configured to use an HTTP Proxy server.
  218.  
  219.        The workaround for Netscape is to go to the Proxies panel in
  220.        the Network Preferences dialog. View the manual settings. If
  221.        you have a Proxy configured for HTTP, then add the following
  222.        information to the "No Proxy For" field:  "localhost,
  223.        hostname, hostname.domainname". For example, a machine
  224.        pacifica.eng.sgi.com should have the entry:
  225.        "localhost,pacifica,pacifica.eng,pacifica.eng.sgi.com"

  229.        2.6.2  _U_s_i_n_g__H_T_M_L__F_R_A_M_E_'_s__i_n__O_u_t_B_o_x__p_a_g_e_s

  231.        If a user's OutBox page contains an HTML FRAMESET, sub-
  232.        frames containing toolbar and folder icons will not behave
  233.        as expected.  Clicking on them will load the new page into
  234.        the same sub-frame, rather than the toplevel frame.

  236.        The workaround is to place the following line in any HTML
  237.        file included in a FRAMESET which references the OutBox
  238.        toolbar(/cgi-bin/outbox-cgi), or folder listing (/cgi-
  239.        bin/wrap):

  255.        reliably work if they are specified as being relative to the
